Volunteer with US
Trans Edu is always in need of those passionate for the cause! Our volunteers are integral to our organization. They are the ones who allow us to educate the community and dispel harmful stereotypes.
We have both online and in-person options for volunteering! Our in-person volunteer opportunities are currently based in Canada but we are looking towards expanding to the United States soon!

Are you someone who's part of the community who'd like to assist someone currently transitioning? Past studies have reported that when transgender people have a support system to rely on during their transition, their overall health/mental health increases and they're less likely to commit suicide.
Training Process:
If you'd like to be a transition partner, you will have to do a 5-hour training session with one of our staff! We want to ensure that our partners are well informed and can be great support systems to our transitioning family! You will be matched with a partner after your training session.
Responsibilities:
An hour a week, you have to call/meet your partner for an hour to talk to them about their transition and give them any guidance they need. If they are in severe need of help (in a life-threatening situation), please contact us so that we can find them a suitable place to escape to.

Weekends:
11 am- 7pm
Note: During COVD-19 we've put door-to-door canvassing on hold because we don't want our volunteers potentially getting COVID and spreading it.

Door-to-Door canvassing in Trans Edu's main form of advocacy and a volunteer opportunity that we actively need volunteers for! We need volunteers across all 13 provinces/territories of Canada and all 50 states of America. A 2016 study done by Broockman and Kalla showed that people who were well-trained on trans issues were able to change voter opinion on the trans population and got them to support and vote for trans issues! Our volunteers actively go to people's houses to educate them on trans issues so that the community no-longer holds harmful misconceptions about the community.
Training Process:
Canvassers will go through a two-day training process. Day 1 will be focused on the informational aspect of canvassing while day 2 focuses on how to be a good canvasser and how to handle rejection. We actively ensure that canvassers know how to respond to hostility, rejection and any questions so that they are safe and provide the best education possible.
Responsiblities:
At least 1 hour a week, volunteers are paired up with another canvasser to educate their community. Some people will be required to travel to more rural areas but our team will ensure that those who have to travel will have larger teams for safety reasons.
Requirements:
Bravery, the want to educate others, and passion for the community.
